The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has expanded its route rationalization initiative to Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts, following its success in Thiruvananthapuram. The move aims to eliminate dead kilometers and improve efficiency, resulting in significant cost savings for the public utility.

KSRTC Cost Savings and Efficiency Gains

  • In Kollam and Pathanamthitta, KSRTC identified 12,796 km of dead kilometers, leading to a daily saving of ₹3.66 lahks.
  • The initiative also saves 3,311.45 liters of diesel and avoids ancillary costs of ₹4 per km, amounting to a total monthly saving of ₹1.09 crore in these two districts alone.

KSRTC Positive Impact on Operations

  • Despite the route rationalization, services in hilly, tribal, plantation, coastal, and colony areas remain unaffected, ensuring continued connectivity for residents.
  • The monthly profit from route rationalization in Thiruvananthapuram is estimated at ₹98 lakh, indicating the financial benefits of the initiative.

KSRTC Minister’s Commitment to Efficiency

  • Transport Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar initiated the route rationalization process, emphasizing efficiency and cost-effectiveness in KSRTC operations.
  • The extension of route rationalization to Kollam and Pathanamthitta demonstrates the minister’s commitment to improving the public utility’s financial health and service quality.

KSRTC Future Prospects

  • With the successful implementation of route rationalization in three districts, KSRTC is poised to save a total of ₹2.08 crore per month, highlighting the potential for further cost savings and operational improvements.

KSRTC’s route rationalization initiative in Kollam and Pathanamthitta underscores the corporation’s efforts to enhance efficiency and reduce costs. By optimizing routes and eliminating dead kilometers, KSRTC is not only improving its financial performance but also ensuring better service delivery to passengers.
