To avail of the electric bus service, tourists can book their seats at the HRTC counter in Manali. The round trip fare for this scenic journey is set at Rs 500 per person. Initially, HRTC will operate five or six buses to Rohtang Pass, and the number will be increased based on demand. It’s advisable to make advance bookings to secure a seat on these limited buses.

Limited Vehicles Permitted at Rohtang Pass
Access to Rohtang Pass is regulated to preserve its ecological balance. Currently, only 800 petrol and 400 diesel vehicles with online permits are allowed to cross the Gulaba barrier and proceed to the Rohtang Pass. However, electric buses enjoy the privilege of exemption from permits, in line with NGT guidelines, making them a convenient and environmentally friendly transportation option for tourists.
Future Plans and Route Updates
DK Narang, the Regional Manager of HRTC in Kullu, highlights that the road condition beyond Rohtang towards Koksar is currently unfavorable, leading buses to return to Manali after the halt near Rohtang Pass. However, once the road is repaired, buses will resume their journey through Koksar and the Atal Tunnel, making a brief stopover at Solang Nullah. This route adjustment will provide travelers with an enhanced experience and allow them to explore more attractions en route.
